Abstract

This study presented a new rational vestibuloplasty technique with a free gingival graft performed to assess maintenance of vestibular depth and improved keratinized gingiva without using any additional fixation materials. Twenty patients aged between 35–55 years requiring vestibuloplasty in the mandibular anterior region were included. A free gingival graft was harvested from the palatal mucosa and placed on the recipient site. Vestibular depth and keratinized gingiva were measured at baseline and after 6 months using a calibrated periodontal probe. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test to compare preoperative and postoperative values. There was an obvious augmentation of more than twofold in vestibular depth, maintained for 6 months postoperatively. The difference between the mean vestibular depths before and after 6 months was 7.00 mm, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). No recurrence or graft shrinkage was recorded during the follow-up period. Vestibuloplasty with a free gingival graft without additional fixation is an effective and predictable procedure to maintain increased vestibular depth and keratinized tissue with stable results over 6 months. • Mandibular vestibuloplasty is a pre-prosthetic surgical procedure to lower the tissue attachments for lengthen alveolar height. • Deepening oral vestibular gives improve oral hygiene and retention for removable prosthesis. • Using FGG to maintain obtained vestibular depth for six months without using any fixation stent post-operatively.
