A novel cancer gene therapy achieving reciprocal regulation of PTEN and PARP1 expression
Abstract
A recent study published in Molecular Therapy Oncology by Hu et al. described a novel gene therapy for advanced prostate cancer. This gene therapy inhibits the proliferation of prostate cancer cells through reciprocal regulation of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) expression.1 Hu et al. developed a lipid nanoparticle (LNP), named mPsiP@miLAND, in which PTEN mRNA and PARP1-specific small interfering RNA (siRNA) were encapsulated. Targeting the delivery of mPsiP@miLAND into cancer cells led to the enhancement and reduction of PTEN and PARP1 expressions, respectively.
