Ammonia for food and fuels in a sustainable future
Abstract
The Haber-Bosch process enabled the inexpensive production of ammonia for fertilizers, industrial materials, and explosives, resulting in population and economic growth. However, its use disrupted the global nitrogen cycle, causing environmental and climate impacts. Within the energy transition, ammonia is introduced as a sustainable energy carrier, while the use-phase nitrogen impacts (again) are largely neglected.
