Abstract

Corneal transplantation, including penetrating keratoplasty (PKP), Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK), and Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), is a well-established and highly effective surgical treatment for corneal blindness. However, chronic endothelial cell dysfunction and/or allogeneic immunologic rejection may necessitate repeat keratoplasty. In addition to increased surgical complexity, repeat keratoplasty is associated with a higher incidence of postoperative complications, including immunologic reaction and secondary glaucoma.
