Smithsonite geochemistry revealing telescoped mineralization at the Huoshaoyun giant non-sulfide Zn-Pb deposit, Karakorum
Abstract
• The mineralization of Huoshaoyun Zn-Pb deposit evolved through two Zn-Pb carbonate stages interrupted by a stage of sulfide-sulfate mineralization. • Two groups of smithsonite have different geochemical characteristics. • The second pulse of non-sulfide mineralization formed at the expense of sulfides. • The Zn-Pb carbonate mineralization arises from supergene processes. The Huoshaoyun giant Zn-Pb deposit in the Karakorum region, NW China, consists of both non-sulfide (>95 %) and sulfide (
