Abstract

Ejector deep hole drilling is used for demanding drilling applications with high quality requirements. The efficient metal working fluid supply and the chip removal are a major challenge for the optimization of ejector tools. In order to achieve an enhanced understanding of the swarf flow at the tool, the chip formation was analyzed during the deep hole drilling process. Based on the results, optimized ejector drill head concepts can be designed and validated using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method that allow improved chip removal and reduced tool wear.
