Modeling the compliance behavior of milling tools modified with asymmetric dynamic properties
Abstract
By specifically modifying the dynamic properties and behavior of milling tools, their performance in machining processes can be increased. By applying, e.g., grooves to the tool shank, asymmetrical dynamic properties of the tool can be achieved and the dynamic response during successive tooth engagements can be adjusted. In order to investigate the compliance behavior for these asymmetric properties under cutting conditions, analogy tests for different groove depths were performed. To consider this behavior in a simulation-based process analysis, suitable models are required. For this purpose, the dynamic behavior was investigated and modeled taking the excitation angle into account.
