Artificial Intelligence methods for monitoring and control of laser welding process for battery pack production
Abstract
It is estimated that there will be 30 million electric vehicles (EVs) on the roads in the EU because of the transition to electric mobility. Production of one battery pack needs thousands of welds, and millions of welds per year are required to produce enough batteries for EVs. This requires a reliable welding process, such as laser welding. Monitoring and control of the process has an essential role in avoiding defects and Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods can be successfully used for this. The article provides an overview of application of AI methods for monitoring and control of laser welding for battery pack production.
