Abstract

Products are engineered and evaluated based on restrictions anticipating an entire product life. Information from past products can support design and assessment in addition to design guidelines and Design-for-X approaches. The Digital Product Passport (DPP) offers potential to provide such information across multiple product instances. A concept is presented that identifies information which engineers need in DPP for generative design of sustainable mobility systems. For this purpose, the DPP is expanded by six perspectives and fed into the process chain of generative design. The need for information is determined through industrial workshops and cladding as a sample case. As a result, information with product properties are presented to engineers. By applying this concept, the automated creation of design alternatives is limited to those which are conformant to experiences from past products and, thus, engineers can select from even more advanced sets of design alternatives.
