Shop floor environment digital twin scan for extended reality applications
Abstract
Digital twins are becoming omnipresent in manufacturing to enable precise and timely predictions. Extended reality technologies are imperative mediums for non-experts facilitating visual and spatial interactions with digital environments. However, a stiff challenge lies in digitizing shop floor environments and objects to author extended reality applications when 3D models are unavailable. This paper introduces a methodology to reconstruct 3D models from environment scan data, interconnect them with digital twin counterparts and consume them in extended reality applications. Preliminary results show that the methodology can provide modular, user-friendly and scalable data pipelines to develop extended reality applications for digital authoring readily.
