A low power, microcontroller-based multi-sensor system using ultrasonic range sensors and radar range sensors to detect objects distance, angle and speed by sensors data fusion
Abstract
A system using only one sensor principle for instance ultrasonic range sensors does not lead to the detection of all objects in the detection area because some materials cannot reflect the ultrasound wave as good as it would be necessary. This issue can be solved by the integration of a second sensor principle, in this paper: radar range sensors. Using an algorithm to combine the data of the ultrasonic range sensors and radar range sensors can maximize the accuracy of object detection on the one hand and on the other hand object mismatch can be reduced. The paper deals with the introduction of the sensors followed by the discussion of detectable materials by each sensor principle. An algorithm will be presented to combine the sensors data in conclusion to present the prototype of a low power, microcontroller-based multi-sensor system.
