Cyborgs in the Factory: How Blending Biology and Technology is Shaping the Future of Work
Abstract
This paper examines the current state of cyborgs in modern production. We argue that the traditional definition of a cyborg – an organism with both biological and artificial components – does not fully encompass the range of individuals manipulating technology in production today. Specifically, workers utilizing exoskeletons and AR glasses, for example, do not fit the traditional definition of a cyborg yet might still be considered as such. The paper discusses implications of this new definition of cyborgs and how future research in this field can lead to more efficient production processes, improved technological advancements, and a more resilient workforce.
