Abstract

The increasing lack of manpower and the constant need to enhance efficiency and reduce costs are also evident in warehouse management, where the adoption of new technologies and data analysis are gaining growing importance. These needs are also driving industries specializing in picking and kitting systems to focus more on the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) approach to develop competitive advantages. In recent years, significant progress has been made in the fields of picking, kitting, and asset tracking, thanks to the spread of heterogeneous systems focused on scalability and interoperability, yet neglecting other important key requirements. Among these requirements are the security and sustainability of the proposed solution. This paper introduces the topics of picking, kitting, and asset tracking in industry 5.0 and identifies potential solutions, based on RFID, Bluetooth or UWB, to meet security and sustainability needs.
