Abstract

We present the case of a 9-month-old preterm male infant admitted to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in whom extensive calcified thrombosis of the inferior vena cava (IVC) and left renal vein was incidentally detected via x-ray (XR). The diagnosis was subsequently confirmed by ultrasound (US) and computed tomography (CT). Initial imaging via radiography revealed lace-like abdominal calcification. Subsequent computed tomography (CT) demonstrated dense calcification extending from the inferior vena cava (IVC) into the distal left renal vein, as well as the bilateral common iliac veins, the right external iliac vein, and the left internal iliac vein. Extensive collateral circulation was also observed, consistent with chronic venous occlusion.
