Abstract

: Organic–inorganic lead chloride layered perovskite crystals with cycloalkane or benzene derivatives, (C 6 H 11 C n H 2n NH 3 ) 2 PbCl 4 (n = 1 : CMA, n = 2 : CEA), (H 3 COC 6 H 10 C 2 H 4 NH 3 ) 2 PbCl 4 (4M-CEA), (C 6 H 5 C n H 2n NH 3 ) 2 PbCl 4 (n = 1 : PMA, n = 2 : PEA) and (H 3 COC 6 H 4 C 2 H 4 NH 3 ) 2 PbCl 4 (4M-PEA) were prepared, and the luminescent properties of the crystals were evaluated for scintillators. A broadband emission peak probably attributable to self-trapped excitons (STE) was observed under both visible light and X-ray excitation. The scintillation light yield under α-ray from 241 Am was obtained from CMA (80 photons/5.5MeV-α), CEA (250 photons/5.5MeV-α), PMA (1600 photons/5.5MeV-α), and PEA (1300 photons/5.5MeV-α), and PMA showed the largest light yield. Furthermore, the crystals exhibited a scintillation decay time of a few nanoseconds that should be ascribed to STE.
