Engineering Zr/Ag co-doped TiO2 nanocomposites for high-efficiency photocatalytic water purification under visible light
Abstract
The formation of extremely stable and effective visible-light photocatalysts is critical to the solar-based environmental remediation and hydrogen generation. New metallotsiloxane-co-doped TiO 2 (Zr/Ag-TiO 2 ) nanocomposites were developed in this paper through a relatively easy sol-gel reaction and systematically investigated using XRD, SEM, EDS, UVVis DRS, PL, and XPS. The findings verify the preparation of plasmonic Ag/Zr-figured TiO 2 heterojunction in which substitutional Zr 4+ tuning of lattice and Ag-facilitated surface plasmon resonance jointly reduce the bandgap to 2.62 eV and enhance rapid charge separation. The composite was optimized to give a state of art performance, degrading 95.8% of methylene blue in 90 min (k a = 0.0284 min −1) and hydrogen was evolved at a rate of 980 mol g −1 h −1 in the visible-light irradiation. Anywhere up to 90% activity retained after five cycles and basal level Ag leaching of less than 0.5% gave exceptional stability. These results indicate that the co-doping approach offers a solid interface-engineering framework, in which the next-generation visible-light photocatalysts can be created to act as an environmental/sustainable-energy resource.
