Abstract

In the past few years, quinolone compounds have demonstrated considerable research potential across various fields. This review systematically summarizes research progress from 1945 to 2025, focusing on representative biological activities, including antibacterial activity, antitumor activity, antiviral activity and other activities. Particular attention is given to recently reported compounds exhibiting high activity and novel mechanisms. Furthermore, synthetic methods of quinolone compounds, such as condensation cyclization methods, metal-catalyzed methods, and emerging green approaches like photochemical synthesis, are critically reviewed. It systematically outlines structure-activity relationships and sustainable synthetic strategies, aiming to chart a course for the future development of quinolone-based drugs and agrochemicals.
