Abstract

• Neuron shape inspired biomimetic geometry for THz antenna. • Tri band operation achieved in the THz frequency range in low atmospheric absorption windows. • Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene improved the conductivity, impedance matching and radiation efficiency. • Strong reflection coefficient at 0.64 THz. • Reflection based THz interaction analysis with biological tissues. This paper presents the design and performance analysis of a novel neuron shaped tri band terahertz (THz) microstrip patch antenna using Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene for biomedical imaging, 6G and beyond wireless communication applications. The proposed antenna was designed using a polyimide substrate in Ansys HFSS operating in three frequency bands selected due to low water vapour in the atmosphere and achieved a maximum return loss of -35.15 dB at 0.64 THz in the frequency band 0.603 THz - 0.688 THz among the other frequency bands 1.044 THz - 1.078 THz and 0.511 THz - 0.555 THz. We achieved compact dimensions of 483.8 × 483.8 × 60 μ m 3 for THz integration. The antenna performance is investigated through electromagnetic simulations, including gain, current distribution, VSWR, radiation patterns, axial ratio and interaction with biological tissues and fluids. The proposed structure demonstrates feasibility as a common THz platform for short-range communication and non-ionizing non-invasive sensing applications.
