Numerical modeling of porous curved barge-type floating wind turbine platforms with cage system under monotonically oscillating seabed
Abstract
The present study investigates the oblique wave interaction with curved porous structures, combined with a barge-type platform featuring a cage system situated in different places over a monotonically oscillating seabed. The governing boundary value problem is numerically treated using the multi-domain boundary element method. Numerical simulations are conducted to evaluate wave scattering characteristics, including reflection and transmission coefficients, hydrodynamic forces on the curved porous structure and cage system, and the moment on the cage system. The study found that a Bragg resonance is pronounced near 2 k 0 / k u = 1.1 . In addition, the wave reflection from the structure located on the right side of the undulated seabed exhibits a more oscillatory pattern from the structure positioned above the undulated seabed. The attachment of a curved porous structure reduces the wave reflection, transmission and horizontal force on the cage system. The study indicates that the concave geometry performs better in wave diffraction than the other geometries. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that increasing the height and width of the porous structure reduces the wave force acting on the cage system. The proposed design and the findings of this study offer useful guidance for engineering practice in the development of wind turbine platform integrated with aquaculture cage systems.
