Abstract

Traveling wave method has become the key technology of distribution network fault location in recent years. Aiming at the problem of inaccurate fault location caused by difficult extraction of traveling wave head in strong noise environment, a traveling wave fault location method for distribution network based on variational mode decomposition (VMD) combined with wavelet threshold denoising (WTD) is proposed. Firstly, the traveling wave signal is decomposed by VMD, and the transient feature saliency (TFS) is introduced to quantify the saliency of the fault feature. The iterative decomposition noise reduction mechanism is constructed, and the traveling wave component containing significant fault features is extracted to calibrate the traveling wave head, so as to realize the accurate positioning of the fault point. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method maintains good applicability and positioning accuracy in the environment of strong noise and typical distribution network.
