Optical simulation and analysis of focus-switchable liquid crystal lens glasses for correcting astigmatism with presbyopia
Abstract
Astigmatism and presbyopia are common eye conditions that can significantly impact vision and require correction. While various treatment options exist, including glasses, contact lenses, and surgical procedures, electrically tunable liquid crystal lenses offer a promising alternative, particularly for addressing both conditions simultaneously. This paper investigates the potential of liquid crystal lenses as a personalized solution for vision correction. Our approach leverages simulation techniques to evaluate the performance of Optotune’s liquid lenses as a pair of glasses for treating astigmatism and presbyopia. The adjustable nature of liquid lenses allows for precise modifications to the refractive power, enabling simultaneous correction of both conditions. The results were analyzed using metrics such as Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), focal spot diagrams, and aberration coefficients. The findings of this simulation study provide valuable insights into the potential of electrically tunable liquid crystal lenses for vision correction. Further research and clinical trials are necessary to validate these findings and explore the practical applications of this innovative technology.
