Investigation on the erosion damage evolution of a bainite steel in the low temperature ice-seawater mixture environment
Abstract
The erosion damage evolution of a low-temperature bainitic steel in the ice-seawater mixture environment is studied in the present work. When small cavities are generated by the ice-water erosion, the corrosion products remain relatively intact, corresponding to a decrease in the weight loss rate. With cavities expansion to dimensions that allow direct ice impact on the cavity bottoms, significant fragmentation of corrosion products occurs alongside the enlargement of flow-track areas, leading to an accelerated corrosion rate. There exists ice cover during the erosion test in ice-seawater mixture environment. In this case, the weight loss rate is lower than that caused by erosion due to the protective effect of the ice layer. The spatial distribution of O elements provides a direct indication of the corrosion state of the material, by integrating dynamic convolution with a transformer-based representation module, yielding an accurate identification of the damage degree.
