Abstract

Wear resistance of the DLC AF+ coating, deposited on the high-grade, low-alloy steel was experimentally verified by the tribometer Tip-on-Flat testing method. Experimental works included determination of the substrate chemical composition, heat treatment, microstructure evaluation, EDX analysis, mechanical properties verifying and wear-resistance measurement at very high contact pressure. From the results obtained by experiments, it was concluded that the DLC AF+ coating has very good wear resistance under the contact pressure caused by a diamond tip (with the tip radius of 0.3 mm). The DLC AF+ coating can be recommended for surface protection of steels.
