Abstract

Roundness measurement data analysis is crucial in evaluating the roundness features of cylindrical or spherical objects. It can be divided into four parts: modelling, filtering, parametrization and uncertainty budget. This paper focuses on the first three parts of this formula and thoroughly analyse some factors and parameters involved, in terms of their influence on the final result of the measurement. Commonly used assumptions in roundness measurement have been tested to confirm their validity. Specifically, findings confirm that the difference in amplitude roundness parameters does not exceed 50% depending on the chosen reference circle, that applying a Gaussian filter with a broader range has a positive effect on amplitude parameters, and that the Fourier transform can be effectively employed in roundness profile analysis.
