Abstract

Connected Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) is poised to transform transportation by enhancing safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability. A cornerstone of CCAM is Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, which facilitates low-latency data exchange, critical for intelligent transport systems. However, Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) communication faces unique challenges due to pedestrians’ mobility patterns and resource constraints. This study proposes a simulation framework integrating open-source tools like OMNeT++ and SUMO, augmented for comprehensive V2P communication modeling. Key contributions include extending the Veins framework to support pedestrian communication variables and demonstrating its application in simulated environments. This solution bridges gaps in simulating pedestrians within open-source simulators by enabling detailed modeling of pedestrian-specific variables and their dynamic interactions with vehicular systems. This work provides a cost-effective and flexible platform for testing V2X services, with significant implications for advancing Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS).
