Numerical and experimental study of the thermal properties of thermal storage heat pipe radiator
Abstract
A novel thermal storage heat pipe radiator (TSHPR) is proposed for room heating. Heat storage elements (HSE) are integrated between the front and rear fins of the heat pipe radiator. The vapor inside the heat pipe transfers heat through condensation, first to the fins and HSE, and then exchanges heat with the indoor air through natural convection and radiation. In this paper, the transient thermal conductivity behavior of the HSE is analyzed, and a formula is derived to fit the average temperature change during the storage and release phases in this heat dissipation model. The feasibility of this formula, as well as the effectiveness of the HSE in improving system performance, is validated through experimental tests. Furthermore, the factors influencing the thermal properties of the HSE are investigated using this model, providing a valuable reference for optimizing radiator design, selecting heat storage materials (HSM), and developing new thermal storage radiators.
