Abstract

Food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (FDEIA) is a rare but potentially life-threatening allergic reaction [1,2]. This kind of reaction occurs when specific foods are ingested prior to physical activity. The specific food is generally well tolerated when at rest, and physical activity alone is inadequate to provoke the reaction. The exact mechanism of is unclear, but one of the proposed mechanisms is IgE medicated hypersensitivity to specific food allergen, when combined with exercise, it lowers the threshold for mast cell degranulation leading to release of histamine and vasoactive mediators leading to allergic reaction [3].
