Abstract

Objective To identify factors influencing planned tracheal extubation failure in patients after posterior fossa surgery. Methods A total of 74 patients admitted to the neurosurgical intensive care unit of a tertiary hospital from January 2022 to January 2024 were recruited via convenience sampling. Clinical data and tracheal extubation-related parameters were collected. High-risk factors for extubation failure were determined through univariate analysis and binary logistic regression. Results Among the 74 patients, 18 experienced tracheal extubation failure. Significant differences were found in pre-extubation Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, pneumonia, cough strength scores, suction frequency, hypercapnia, and post-extubation swallowing dysfunction (P
