Abstract

Few previous studies have described triple-valve surgery outcomes in adults.1-5 A National Inpatient Sample study found that approximately 500 triple-valve surgery cases are performed yearly in the United States. Using a statewide database, we explored outcomes for patients who had triple-valve (aortic-mitral-tricuspid) surgery in Virginia. We hypothesized that patients having triple-valve surgery for active endocarditis would have greater postoperative morbidity and mortality than those having triple-valve surgery for other pathology.
