Mitral valve repair after failed transcatheter edge-to-edge repair: Approach and strategies for success
Abstract
Surgical mitral valve repair is the gold standard for degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR) management. Mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER) has emerged as a management strategy for patients at high to prohibitive risk, carrying a 2a recommendation.1 M-TEER is controversial in lower-risk patients, with trials investigating its efficacy relative to surgical mitral valve repair ongoing. Mitral valve surgery for failed M-TEER is more likely to require replacement, an inferior result in degenerative disease.
