Abstract

Sepsis is a leading cause of death, especially when complicated by acute kidney injury (AKI), a common clinical syndrome linked to chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression1, cardiovascular disease (CVD)2, and mortality3. Approximately two-thirds of septic shock patients develop AKI, with nearly half presenting with it upon admission.4,5 However, it remains unclear why some septic patients develop AKI while others do not.
