Protocol for identifying compound heat-danger and ozone-pollution hotspots and their synoptic drivers
Abstract
The co-occurrence of heat danger and ozone pollution amplifies risks to human health. Here, we present a protocol for quantifying heat danger using the Heat Index and identifying ozone pollution using maximum daily 8-h averages. We describe steps for applying predefined thresholds, data processing, and hotspot detection. We then detail procedures for synoptic analysis to identify dominant atmospheric drivers. This protocol enables a systematic assessment of compound climate-air quality hazards. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Miao et al. 1
