Low-dose aspirin for preventing intrauterine growth restriction and pre-eclampsia in sickle cell pregnancy
Abstract
Low-dose aspirin to prevent pre-eclampsia in at-risk pregnant people is a global care standard.1,2 In sickle cell disease, pregnancy is associated with a two-fold increased risk of pre-eclampsia and maternal and perinatal morbidities associated with pre-eclampsia are common. This knowledge informs the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and British Society of Haematology's recommendations for treating pregnant people with sickle cell disease with low-dose aspirin starting at 12 weeks of gestation.
