Abstract

Abstract An apparent issue for the Revision Theory of definitions has long been that its most plausible versions engender ω $\omega $ omega -inconsistencies. In this paper I develop a new ω $\omega $ omega -consistent revision theory and use it to argue that revision theorists can and should embrace ω $\omega $ omega -consistency. I show how my theory, called S # N $\mathbf {S}^{\#N}$ bold upper S Superscript number sign upper N , withstands the theoretical pressures towards ω $\omega $ omega -inconsistency and moreover compares favorably to the best ω $\omega $ omega -inconsistent theories vis-à-vis several important desiderata. I tentatively conclude that S # N $\mathbf {S}^{\#N}$ bold upper S Superscript number sign upper N is the best known revision theory.
