Abstract

The development of multifunctional epoxy coatings integrating high thermal conductivity and robust corrosion resistance remains a critical challenge for industrial applications. This study introduces a synergistic modification approach employing polydopamine (PDA) and fluorosilanes (FAS) to functionalize boron nitride/graphene oxide (BN/GO) hybrids, referred to as PFBG, for improved epoxy composite coatings. The PDA modification enhances filler dispersion and interfacial adhesion through noncovalent interactions, while fluorosilanes provide hydrophobicity for dynamic corrosion prevention. At a 10:1 BN:GO mass ratio and 20 wt % filler loading, the PFBG/EP coating demonstrates optimized performance: A thermal conductivity of 0.92 W/(m·K), representing a 360% improvement over pure epoxy (0.2 W/(m·K)), is ascribed to GO bridging BN sheets and PDA diminishing interfacial thermal resistance. Superior corrosion resistance demonstrated by a low-frequency impedance modulus of 1.1 × 10 11 Ω·cm 2 resulted from hydrophobic surfaces and prolonged diffusion paths. This study illustrates a scalable method for developing multifunctional coatings suitable for challenging thermal and corrosive environments.
