Isobaric Vapor–Liquid Equilibrium Experiments and Thermodynamic Correlations of Methyl Acetate + Methanol Containing Different Ionic Liquids at 101.3 kPa
Abstract
The isobaric vapor–liquid equilibrium experiments for the methyl acetate + methanol + ionic liquids (ILs) system were conducted at atmospheric pressure, with 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([BMIM][Ac]), 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([EMIM][Ac]), and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dimethyl phosphate ([EMIM][DMP]) employed as entrainers. The ILs exhibit a significant salting-out effect on methyl acetate, resulting in a substantial increase in the relative volatility of methyl acetate with respect to that of methanol. The results show that all three extractants could effectively break the azeotrope of methyl acetate + methanol. The NRTL model was selected to correlate the experimental data, yielding an average relative deviation (ARD) of 3.19% for the binary methyl acetate + methanol system. For the ternary systems of methyl acetate + methanol + [BMIM][Ac], methyl acetate + methanol + [EMIM][Ac], and methyl acetate + methanol + [EMIM][DMP], the ARDs were 1.53%, 4.10%, and 4.04%, respectively, which indicates the good applicability of the NRTL model for the investigated systems.
