Abstract

Engaging students in general chemistry requires innovative tools that connect course material with real-world applications. The transition to online learning has amplified the need for interactive and accessible educational resources. ChemQuest Game, a web-based activity developed using the Figma design platform, was implemented to review concepts while enhancing student confidence in connecting chemistry topics to real-world contexts. The game integrates narrative-based mysteries and practical scenario-driven questions across key general chemistry topics, including thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, kinetics, and electrochemistry. A presurvey and postsurvey measured student perceptions of relevance to real life, with significant increases ( p < 0.05) across all topics. Qualitative feedback highlighted both the positive and negative reception of the game interface and content delivery, as assessed through surveys. Those who completed the activity had a significantly higher exam score compared to those who did not ( p < 0.008), and a dose–response relationship was observed (p = 0.026). The no-cost, code-free design of the ChemQuest Game offers a scalable and adaptable tool for enhancing student engagement in both virtual and traditional learning environments.
