Tandem WGSR-Inspired Nitroarene Reductive Carbonylative C–N Coupling for Nongaseous Amide Synthesis
Abstract
A tandem reductive carbonylation of nitroarenes with boronic acids is achieved under mild conditions (65 °C, ambient pressure), using Fe(CO) 5 and H 2 O as a bifunctional syngas surrogate. The Fe(CO) 5 -mediated water–gas shift reaction (WGSR) generates hydrides for nitro reduction and supplies CO in situ for Pd-catalyzed carbonylative C–N coupling. This operationally simple protocol provides direct access to amides without external CO/H 2, exhibiting broad functional group tolerance and an enhanced safety profile.
