Abstract

The distinctive characteristics of hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) position them as attractive iodine adsorption materials that successfully integrate high adsorption capacity, structural stability, economic viability, and environmental sustainability. Here, we prepared a tetraphenylvinyl hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF) with tetrapyridine as the node. This type of HOF has high preparation efficiency and exhibits an iodine adsorption capacity of 4.7 g g –1 with good stability and recyclability. Introducing pyridine rings optimized the pore size and mass transfer within the HOF; in addition, the pyridine rings promoted iodine adsorption as Lewis base sites and concurrently reinforced the HOF’s stability by rigidifying its structure. This work extends the application of HOFs in iodine capture, contributing to the development of adsorption systems that balance high capacity, structural stability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
