Solution Processable Organic–Inorganic Hybrid POSS-MFPy as a Blue Emitter in OLEDs
Abstract
Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) have been proposed as versatile chemical platforms for potential applications in displays and solid-state lighting, owing to their favorable charge transport, light absorption, and emission properties. However, conventional synthesis processes require multiple processing steps and expensive process chemicals for purification. In this work, we synthesize a fluorene-pyrene core-based emitter 1,1’-(9-(hex-5-en-1-yl)-9-methyl-9 H -fluorene-2,7-diyl) dipyrene (MFPy) and its incorporation with the POSS platform using an efficient methodology. The resulting metal-free fabricated OLED device exhibits a moderate device performance, with a luminance: 1761.512 ± 4.161 cd/m 2, current efficiency: 0.333 ± 0.0006 cd/A, and external quantum efficiency (EQE): 0.1910 ± 3.7000 × 10 –6 %. The electroluminescence spectrum (EL) exhibits a peak at ∼437 nm, consistent with the photoluminescence spectrum (PL). The Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage (CIE) coordinates x = 0.163, y = 0.134, indicating a deep-blue emission. The theoretically derived singlet lifetime using the guest–host system is in close agreement with the experimentally observed time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL,τ 2:2.439 ± 1.381 ns) data.
