Abstract

A booming demand for wearable liquid environmental signal monitoring systems urges the development of smart fabrics. However, it is still a challenge to fabricate multifunctional smart fabrics with excellent mechanical properties, comfortable wearing, and satisfactory antiwrinkle capabilities. Herein, a MXene@ polyester liquid response sensor is fabricated by depositing MXene onto a polyester/copper/nickel composited woven fabric. With this structure, the MXene@ polyester sensor could quickly detect a weak liquid environmental signal, and the SEM and FITR analyses showed that MXene has been successfully coated on the surface, and a stable composite conductive network was formed. From the electronic testing, these 4 conductive fabrics with the different folding angles of 0°, 45°, 90°, and 135° showed the individual resistances, and fabric 1# coated with 0.5% MXene exhibited the steepest slope and the lowest resistance, while fabric 3# coated with 2% MXene had the highest resistance. For simulation of sweat and wet conditions, the fabric resistance showed significant fluctuation and deviation from expected changes after wetting. The 3# fabric with a 2% MXene coating achieved complete wetting and stable resistance, remaining unaffected by environmental changes while sensing human signals. The MXene@polyester woven fabrics’ improved mechanical and electrical properties provide potential application ideas for decoding environmental signals.
