Amine-Assisted CO 2 Hydrogenation to Methanol at Low Temperature over Pt Mesoporous Polymer Catalysts
Abstract
High Resolution Image Download MS PowerPoint Slide An integrated catalytic system combining CO 2 capture with two-step hydrogenation is reported. CO 2 was captured using a 5 wt % solution of morpholine in 1,4-dioxane and subsequently hydrogenated to methanol over a 3 wt % Pt catalyst supported on an amine-functionalized ordered mesoporous polymer (3 wt % Pt/SNOMP). Following the complete one-pot, two-step reaction under mild conditions (Step 1: 120 °C, 2 MPa CO 2 and 2 MPa H 2; Step 2: 120 °C, 4 MPa H 2 ), the overall methanol yield reached over 72% (relative to initial morpholine) and selectivity >99% with a corresponding apparent turnover frequency (TOF) of 28.11 h −1 . Morpholine regeneration exceeded 98%, and the catalyst maintained activity for at least ten cycles without measurable loss in performance. By overcoming the intrinsic limitation imposed by low amine density in bifunctional metal-NH 2 catalysts, this strategy markedly enhances overall methanol productivity. The combination of high yield, effective amine regeneration, and robust catalyst durability represents a concrete step toward the potential implementation of methanol production from CO 2 captured at single-point emission sources.
