Multilevel Knitted-Structure Conductive Fabrics for Microcurrent Therapy
Abstract
Microcurrent therapy (MCT) can effectively prevent various diseases caused by prolonged standing/sedentary activities through promoting blood circulation and metabolism. However, existing MCT devices face challenges in balancing the optimal therapeutic efficacy and patient comfort due to the limitations of materials and structural design. Here, we propose a conductive fabric with a multilevel knitted structure for MCT, integrating superior conductivity, breathability, and thermal comfort. To ensure optimal electrical performance, an analytical model for the resistance-strain relationship of conductive fabrics with multilevel structure is established. Furthermore, the experimental results also demonstrate that the multilevel structure exhibits excellent repeatability, wash resistance, and abrasion resistance. As a device-level example, conductive fabrics are utilized in the fabrication of wearable MCT socks, which exhibit characteristics of large-area treatment and portability. Finally, we prove the effect of MCT socks on the promotion of blood circulation and metabolism through animal experiments. The development of conductive fabrics represents a significant advancement in therapeutic platforms combining outstanding breathability, comfort, and electrical performance.
