Abstract

Attending coverage in many neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) has recently shifted from a model where attending physicians conducted rounds before dedicating the rest of the day to academic activities and taking night calls from home to a model where attendings are present in the NICU 24/7 [ 1 , 2 ]. This change has been driven by factors including increased patient acuity, reduced availability of residents, decreased NICU exposure during medical training, and state mandates.
