Abstract

Abstract The aim of this study was to demonstrate and evaluate the safety and efficacy of transperineal puncture guided by a biplane intracavitary ultrasonic probe in the treatment of male rectovesical pouch effusion in which transabdominal percutaneous access could not be established because of overlying structures. We included fifteen male patients with rectovesical pouch effusion included in this study. The safety of the puncture was evaluated from the occurrence of complications during puncture. For effectiveness, the success rate of one-time puncture and paired t tests were performed to compare the changes in temperature as well as changes in white blood cell count and granulocyte count before and after puncture. We considered a P < 0.05 to indicate statistical significance. The results showed there was a statistically significant difference in the change in temperature as well as the white blood cell count and granulocyte count before and after puncture (P = 0.000, respectively). All patients were successfully treated with one-time transperineal puncture and drainage under the guidance of a biplane intracavitary ultrasonic probe without experienced any complications. Therefore, transperineal puncture guided by a biplane intracavitary ultrasonic probe could be a reliable choice for the treatment of male rectovesical pouch effusion.
