Abstract

In May 2026 an outbreak of Bundibugyo virus, a close relative of Ebola virus, was detected in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. Rapidly increasing case numbers together with the regional circumstances and current lack of licensed countermeasures available against this virus make this outbreak of great concern for public health in the affected region. A quick and decisive response will be required to control this outbreak.
