Abstract

Although there is a growing demand for multifunctional, low-energy, and intelligent display devices, traditional display technologies face significant challenges, such as high-energy consumption and integration of functions. To address these challenges, this work proposes an integrated device that combines environmental recognition, image processing, and neuromorphic display functionalities. The device exhibits notable current enhancement under voltage pulses stimulation, effectively mimicking the short-term potentiation of biological synapses. Thanks to the memory effect, the energy can be saved 4.5% after stimulating by 12 voltage pulses. By leveraging the excitatory stimuli of voltage and light pulses, the response current can also be modulated. The observed enhancement effects arise from the interaction between the photogenerated current within the micro-device and the externally applied electric field. Building on this phenomenon, intelligent image processing can be used to improve the contrast and clarity of blurred images. After 20 epochs of training, the image recognition accuracy surpasses 88%. This multifunctional micro-LED is promising to addresses the issue of hardware separation in traditional display technology, significantly reducing energy consumption.
