Abstract

The early days of the green chemistry movement had a strong industrial flavour thanks to some enlightened industrialists and imaginative policy. Despite this, a large proportion of the green chemistry work in the last 30 years has been academic in nature, partly because of institutional and exploitation hurdles. Two major areas where green chemistry improvements are desperately needed are used to highlight commercial opportunities for innovative research. Case studies show how we can move from the academic bench to commercialisation.
