Abstract

Electrospinning has emerged as a versatile and promising technique for the fabrication of nanofibres, with a wide range of biomedical applications. In addition to their well-known use as scaffolds in tissue engineering for regenerative medicine, electrospun nanofibres have found applications in drug-delivery systems, membrane systems, biosensing devices, and analytical functionality. This chapter provides an overview of the latest research and developments in the field of electrospinning for medical applications, including the challenges and benefits associated with each field. It highlights the advances in controlling the fibre morphology and properties through the manipulation of the electrospinning process parameters, as well as the innovative strategies and materials being explored to enhance the performance of electrospun fibres in biomedical applications. From targeted drug delivery to tissue regeneration, electrospinning offers exciting possibilities for advancing the field of biomedical research and addressing critical healthcare needs.
