Abstract

Green hydrogen, as a multifunctional and sustainable energy carrier, is increasingly recognized as a key factor in the global transition to a low-carbon economy. However, the high production costs restrict its large-scale utilization, which requires more breakthroughs in the green hydrogen production pathways. As the efficiency of sustainable energy acquisition has improved in recent years, including solar energy, green electricity and biomass energy, a fast increase trajectory of green hydrogen production has been witnessed. This chapter discusses environmentally friendly and sustainable green hydrogen production methods, categorizing them based on their energy sources and applications, and the fundamental and major advancements of these green hydrogen production methods have been nucleated. In addition, the current challenges of green hydrogen production and insights into its future development are also provided towards the carbon neutrality goals.
